Bevan Foundation Director, Victoria Winckler, gave a keynote address to the Alliance for Useful Evidence’s Wales conference on 17th May 2013 on how best to use evidence to inform public policy.
Victoria argued that evidence should be much more than academic studies, and should include evidence produced by other organisations including the third sector and public bodies. Victoria also questioned whether evidence should be prioritised over other considerations – what if there is no evidence or it is contradictory, she asked? Ultimately, some decisions were questions of political judgement and accountability.
