The Welsh Government’s proposals for the latest phase of the dualling of the A465 Heads of the Valleys road has been welcomed by Bevan Foundation Director, Victoria Winckler. Speaking on BBC Radio Wales’s Good Evening Wales programme on 25th October 2011, she pointed out that improving the road was vital given the road’s strategic importance connecting West Wales and the Valleys with the rest of the UK, and its poor safety record. But investing the road was not enough alone, she argued, and she urged the Welsh Government to step up its efforts to regenerate the Heads of the Valleys area.
Her comments follow work undertaken by the Bevan Foundation during the construction of the Dowlais – Tredegar phase, which resulted in the announcement of the Heads of the Valleys programme.
