Minister for Housing, Regeneration and Heritage, Huw Lewis AM, set out his agenda for his portfolio at a meeting on 12th July 2011. Speaking within weeks of the election, Huw Lewis welcomed the proposed housing bill and promised to work with housing organisations on its content.  He was particularly keen to develop new models of delivering housing. The Minister said “I am very excited about the possibilities offered by mutual and cooperative organisations. And I am open to offers from far sighted private sources of funding looking for an ethical and long sighted return for their investment.”  Delegates welcomed the Minister’s willingness to discuss the proposed bill with them, and his statement about new forms of organisation and funding generated considerable interest too.  The Minister acknowledged that “innovations will not always be comfortable” but said that the need for a decent home for all was paramount.

The Minister also restated his commitment to free swimming, and announced a review by Cadw of historical town landscapes in Wales.
