Training: Understanding and influencing Senedd Committees

Join us for this unique session which looks at how organisations can engage effectively with the Welsh Parliament especially its committees. 

What’s it about?

The Senedd’s business has a big impact on people and organisations and many charities, public bodies and businesses try to shape its activities and agenda.  This session will provide essential information and insights into one of the most important aspects of its business – committees. 

Why you should attend

This unique half-day training session will give you vital knowledge of how the Senedd’s Committees operate.  You’ll understand the importance of the committees, know about their remits and get insights into when and how best to influence their business.  And you’ll have a chance to ask a committee member about their work. 

With the latest Senedd Committees getting into full swing, this is a very timely session for everyone interested in influencing.  

The session will cover:

  • why Senedd committees are important
  • how Senedd committees operate
  • hints and tips on giving effective written and oral evidence.

1. Welcome and introductions 

2. Why Senedd Committees are important – Bevan Foundation 

This session with outline why Senedd Committees play a particularly important role in shaping public policy and highlight the benefits of engaging with them. 

3. How committees operate – Senedd Research Services 

This session will explain the purpose of Senedd Committees, covering their role, remit and their operation.

4. Influencing and engaging with Committees – Senedd Committee Clerk 

This session will explore how organisations can get involved with a committee’s work, including tips on submitting written and oral evidence. 

5. Case Study – Bevan Foundation 

Participants will have an opportunity to view Committee business and discuss how they fulfil their remit and engage with external organisations in practice. 

6. Q&A with an MS – MS TBC more details soon 

An opportunity to ask a Member of the Senedd about their work on a committee and how you can engage with it.

Practicalities

The training will be delivered online, between 9.15 am and 1.00 pm, and delivered via Zoom.  There will be time for questions and discussion with experts as well as short breaks away from the screen. The number of places is limited to ensure that you have an opportunity to contribute. 

The delegate fee is a highly-competitive £149 per person, with a 33% discount for Bevan Foundation subscribers (£99).  Please note that booking fees are payable in addition to the delegate fee.
