This webinar includes a short film screening and Q&A looking at how we can develop a more sustainable and affordable food system.

No one should be going hungry in 21st century Wales, but with 700,000 people trapped in poverty, food insecurity is a daily challenge for thousands. It is not just consumers who struggle with the cost of food. The current food production system locks many of our farmers in poverty themselves, despite them producing a product that we all rely on.

The short film in this webinar, Nowt but a fleeting thing, explores the challenges faced by our farmers and to listen to our panel discussion to learn more about some solutions.

The Presenters:

Katie Palmer, Food Sense Wales

Katie founded Food Sense Wales in 2018, (part of the Cardiff and Vale Health charity). Food Sense Wales aims to influence how food is produced and consumed in Wales, to ensure sustainable food and farming is at the heart of a just, connected and prosperous food system.

Graeme Wilson, Farmer

Graeme is an organic farmer and grower from South Wales. He runs an 800 acre mixed farm with his wife Pollyanna, together they advocate for a sustainable place based farming system that delivers for the environment, the community and the farmer.

Susan Lloyd-Selby, Trussell Trust

Susan is the Wales Operations Manager for the Trussell Trust. The Trussell Trust supports a nationwide network of food banks, providing emergency food and support to people locked in poverty, as well as campaigning for change to end the need for food banks in the UK.
