A short course to increase your understanding of Wales’s key decision-making bodies.

What’s it about?

Wales’ political institutions and everyday politics are quite different to those in other parts of the UK. Anyone wanting to get their voice heard needs to understand how Wales’ political systems operate.

This introductory course will equip you with the essential knowledge to enable you to navigate and engage with Wales’s key decision-making bodies. It will explain the powers that are currently devolved, explore the roles of the Welsh Government and Welsh Parliament, and outline the key levers for achieving change.

It can be joined as a stand-alone course or as a bundle with a follow-on course on Thursday 8 May, Are you being heard? Influencing political decision-making.

The course comprises two 40 minute sessions and a ten minute break, with trainers Victoria Winckler and Steffan Evans.

By attending this course, you’ll gain:

  • Understanding of the devolution settlement
  • Insights into the powers and processes of Welsh Government
  • Knowledge of the role of the Welsh Parliament and how it conducts its business
  • Awareness of the different levers for social change.

Who should attend

The course will be of interest to anyone who needs to understand how decisions are made in Wales, such as media, communications and public affairs professionals or campaigners in charities, business and the public sector.
