What is it about?

In December 2021 the Welsh Government announced that it would provide Free School Meals to all primary school pupils in Wales within three years. With the cost of living crisis squeezing thousands of Welsh families, many will be eager for the policy to be implemented more rapidly.

Building on its work in spring 2021 the Bevan Foundation is undertaking a short project to gain a clearer understanding of the barriers facing schools and local authorities when seeking to implement the policy. We are eager to hear from local authority staff, teachers, caterers and unions to ensure that their views are reflected in our work.

Join us for a roundtable discussion. We will discuss three broad questions:

What are the barriers to rapidly providing Free School Meals to all primary school pupils?

Are there short term actions that could be taken to address these barriers temporarily?

What action needs to be taken to ensure that the implementation of the policy is a long term success?

Why should you attend?

This discussion will provide an opportunity for you to share your experiences and views, and to discuss practical measures that could be taken to accelerate the implementation of Free School Meals for all primary school pupils.

Who should attend

The event is by invitation only. If you work for a relevant local authority department or trade union, or if you are a teacher or caterer and are interested in this area but have not heard from us the please email Steffan Evans at [email protected] for an invite.

Attendance is free.
