Holiday lets are a hot topic, with many claims and counter-claims being made about their impact on communities across Wales.

This webinar presents the Bevan Foundation’s unique analysis of rentals offered via Airbnb in Wales.

As the holiday season draws to a close, many visitors to Wales will have stayed in a holiday cottage, flat or even a shepherd’s hut or yurt. But the number of holiday lets in some communities is raising real concern about the supply and affordability of homes for local people to live in all year round.

Much of the debate has focused on the impact of holiday lets on owner-occupied homes.  But the private rental sector has been affected too, especially for people who need help with their rents from housing benefit or Universal Credit.

The Bevan Foundation has undertaken a unique analysis of holiday lets in Wales using data on one of the most well-known platforms, Airbnb.  Join us this lunchtime to find out about:

  • the number of Airbnb rentals across Wales
  • how much of the local housing stock is let via Airbnb
  • average Airbnb rents compared with rents at the Local Housing Allowance rates
  • who hosts Airbnb properties and where they are based.
