Startling recent statistics have shown that almost a quarter of people in Wales are trapped in poverty. One in three children live in poverty. Soaring living costs and upheaval in the welfare system have led to people struggling to make ends meet.

What can be done to turn the tide on the effects of poverty in Wales?

This event will touch on a raft of crucial and timely issues, including:

  • Managing and mitigating the effects of Universal Credit
  • Help with housing costs
  • Dealing with debt
  • Addressing food poverty

We will also hear from the Leader of Preston City Council, Councillor Matthew Brown, who will share the experience of how the city managed to secure a fairer and more inclusive local economy through its pioneering and highly-regarded ‘Preston Model’.
