Child poverty in numbers

A short course to increase your knowledge of child poverty and give you the tools to find out more.  

This short course builds on our popular ‘understanding poverty’ training to focus specifically on child poverty.

Why you should attend

Many organisations, from public bodies to charities, want to end child poverty in their areas. This short course will provide you with the insights and tools that you need to understand child poverty, so that you can develop and target your work to have greatest impact.  

You’ll be able to apply your learning to target your services on people and places in greatest need, support funding bids and develop your organisation’s strategy.

What you’ll learn

The course will help you to understand:

• what is child poverty and how is it measured
• the children at greatest risk of being in poverty
• where to find different statistics on child poverty 
• the strengths and weaknesses of different sources. 

To get the most out of this course, participants need to be familiar with simple statistics (such as median and percentages) and be able to use a spreadsheet.

Format

The course is delivered as two 40-minute sessions with a 10 minute break.  The trainers are Victoria Winckler and Steffan Evans.

All participants will receive the slides and a recording of the session. The training will be delivered in English via Zoom.
