What do you love about the valleys?

If you live or work there, we’d like to hear from you.

If you are a resident or worker in the south Wales valleys, we invite you to share a photo, video clip or written statement explaining what you love about the area and what could make it even better.

We know that the valleys are a good place to live and work and could be even better with more investment. Your voice will provide further impetus to our case for this investment.

Selected contributions will be used in a video and publication to support our recommendations to key decision-makers which point to the need for policy change to improve the valleys.

This initiative is part of our project to build local economic resilience in the south Wales valleys, which has been addressing the big socio-economic challenges facing some areas of the valleys, such as jobs, skills, health and well-being. Over the past 18 months, local organisations and individuals have provided essential contributions to this work.

Now we’re looking for residents and workers in the valleys to answer these questions:

  1. What do you like about the valleys?
  2. What would make the valleys better?

We welcome contributions about anything: the local culture, history, transport or environment, or jobs, housing, education or health, and they can take any of the following formats:

  • Photo: a high-quality image showing what you like or would change with a few words to explain it.
  • Video: a 10 second clip recording in landscape (with your phone on its side) – if you prefer you can get in touch with Lloyd Jones at the Bevan Foundation to arrange a recording via Zoom
  • Written: a maximum of 100 words describing what you like or would change about the valleys to make them even better.

Please read the terms and conditions below and, if you have any queries, please email Lloyd Jones.

All valid submissions will be entered into a prize draw to win one of 3 £25-£50 cash prizes and must be received by 12noon on Thursday 20th May.

Terms and conditions:

  • You must provide your name, age, and a sentence to confirm their consent to contributions being used as follows: ‘I consent to the Bevan Foundation using my contribution in educational and promotional materials for an indefinite period as required.’
  • If any content includes a person’s face, you must make sure you have their permission.
  • The Bevan Foundation reserves the right to exclude images promoting specific products or services, featuring nudity or any other content it deems inappropriate.
  • By submitting content, you consent to its indefinite use by the Bevan Foundation in educational and promotional materials and are aware that its use is not guaranteed.
  • Contributions used will be fully acknowledged and you will be sent copies of final outputs.
  • Original submission emails or, where applicable, Zoom recordings, will not be shared with any other organisation. You will not be asked to disclose any personal financial information.
