An analysis of the Cynon Valley economy to propose an agenda for recovery from the pandemic.

The Cynon Valley has experienced significant economic challenges as a result of the pandemic. This project has made recommendations for a new approach that would retain wealth and grow prosperity for all parts of the community.

Aims

The project aimed to:

  • provide an independent assessment of the current position of the Cynon Valley, including the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic;
  • consider the considerable economic assets and potential in the Cynon Valley (including its existing businesses);
  • outline of broad areas for a sustainable recovery, including building community wealth, stimulating and growing local enterprise, and making the most of the natural and built environment

What we did

The projects involved a mix of desk-based analysis of statistics and policy documents, interviews with key stakeholders and surveys Thof the local community and of local businesses.

Key outputs

The main output was a report ‘Cynon after Covid‘ plus a presentation of the findings at a seminar held in Aberdare.

Outcomes

As a result of our recommendations, the Cynon Valley Economy Group has been secured external funding to take forward the idea of a local development trust.
