What does the summer 2015 budget mean for Wales? This briefing provides a sound evidence base to inform debate.

It also aims to stimulate discussion about how public policy should respond to the challenges and opportunities raised by the tax and benefit changes announced in the budget.  The briefing uses a mix of UK analysis, for example by the Institute for Fiscal Studies, alongside Wales-specific data on the number of tax payers, pensioners and claimants of different in- and out-of-work benefits, and considers the issues raised by England-only announcements.  It concludes by identifying issues where action is needed to prevent some of the Chancellor’s announcements driving people into deeper poverty.

This is a special, free, issue of our Equality and Social Briefings.  These briefings are published six times a year and are available on subscription for £255 a year or as part of the Bevan Foundation membership package. – find out more in our leaflet or join now.
