Bevan Foundation Director Victoria Winckler has added her voice to the growing chorus of people supporting a ban on smoking in cars when children are present, in a guest contribution to the BMA Wales blog on 21st December 2011.  In her article, Victoria pointed out that whilst the ban on smoking in public places had protected hundreds of thousands of adults from the effects of second-hand smoke, the same protection had not been given to children.  She commented that the opposition to the ban on smoking in public places had not materialised once the ban was in place, and suggested that the days when children arrived at school reeking of their parent’s smoke should go.

The comments were reported by the Western Mail on 29th December, with pro-smoking lobby Forest claiming they would fight any law to bring about change “all the way”.
