The Archbishop of Canterbury the Most Revd Dr Rowan Williams sent his warm wishes to all Bevan Foundation supporters, Trustees and Staff at the launch of the Foundation’s London branch in its 10th birthday year.  Dr Williams said “As Honorary Patron of the Bevan Foundation, I am delighted to send my best wishes on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the charity. The name of Aneurin Bevan will for ever be inextricably linked with the search for, and commitment to, social justice and the Foundation can proudly take credit for a decade in which it has striven to address the issues of poverty, disadvantage and exclusion within our communities. Those caught in that cycle may face many other insurmountable challenges and, from the safety and security of our comfort zones, can so easily become invisible and therefore forgotten.”

Dr Hywel Francis MP (pictured below), who hosted the event at Portcullis House on 17th March, read the Archbishop’s letter to delegates, highlighting Dr Williams’s comments that “The Bevan Foundation has the capacity to harness public debate and opinion through its research and educational programmes and to highlight our shared responsibility to help the most vulnerable and lonely people in our society.”

Other speakers were Prof Sir Deian Hopkin, former Vice Chancellor of South Bank University, Kate Groucutt, Policy Director at the Daycare Trust, and representatives of Community Union who kindly sponsored the event.
