First Annual Robert Owen Awards – 7th December 2012

 Friday 7th December 2012 saw the first ever Robert Owen Awards which were held in Aberdare Hall, Cardiff. The awards, set up in the name of the founding father of the co-operative movement, Robert Owen, were launched to celebrate the achievements of Co-operatives around Wales.  

Over 75 people attended the lunchtime event where five awards were given to praise the hard work of people involved in co-operation. 

 

Winners of the awards included: 

  • Danielle Sievwright – Young Co-operator
  • Wrexham Supporters Trust – Community Co-operative
  • Cris Tomos – Co-operator
  • Eirlys Roberston – Outstanding Contribution
  • Mayor Gareth Jones and Mayoress Eirwen Edwards of Machynlleth on behalf of the people of Machynlleth  - Outstanding Contribution

 

All awards were presented by the Deputy Minister for Skills, Jeff Cuthbert AM. The event also launched the Year of Co-operative Education in Wales that will run throughout 2013.
